If you would like to be one of them, you need to download the application form on 5th November—places are filled very quickly.

Wish Tokens

The Liverpool Echo is once again running their Wish Token community fund raising event. Last year with the support of our fabulous parishioners Marie Fitzgerald managed to collect enough tokens to raise £10 000 for Woodlands. This year Marie is collecting tokens again, this time for Zoe’s Place. The amount she raises will depend upon how many tokens she manages to collect by 30th November. Please cut out your tokens from the Echo each day and either hand them into the parish office or post them through our letter box, we will make sure they are given to Marie.

Host

Could you offer someone a home far from home for just a day or two? HOST, a well-established charity, is hoping to hear from people who enjoy making others feel at home, and who would love to meet interesting young adults from other parts of the world who are currently studying at universities in the UK, and who want to understand this country better. One host wrote: ‘It is a great to welcome these students and make them feel wanted. They get to see a good side of life in Britain in contrast to what they might learn from the media. It is also fun getting to know someone from another country.’ Invitations can be for a day, a weekend, or 3 days at Christmas. Sharing Christmas with someone who has little idea what Christmas is can be really special – and for the guest, much better than being on a deserted university campus. Invitations are urgently needed from volunteer hosts, no matter how far they live from a university. To find out more, please see www.hostuk.org or call local organiser Alan Lodge 01845 527448.

Very Important Notice – Fire Risk

There have been more than a few potentially dangerous instances in church involving candles. In order to prevent our beautiful church being damaged by a fire could parishioners please take the following precautions.

When lighting candles in church please DO NOT

  • Put them too close together as this causes them to flare up and become very difficult to put out.
  • Place lit candles on the drip tray of the stands with the individual candle holders.
  • Put more than 3 of the blue candles on the Lourdes Shrine at any one time.
  • Put small lit candles inside the blue holders. The holders melt and cause a lot of damage.
  • Bring in candles from home to light as the ones we supply are designed to only last two hours for safety reasons, other candles may burn for much longer.

We would be grateful if all our parishioners could bear these simple safety precautions in mind when lighting candles.

Many Thanks.
