Cup Win and Still Unbeaten
Our Football Team took a break from the league to play in the Merseyside Cup and were drawn against Quest, a team from the Division above. This was always going to be a difficult match and even more so with Quest being top of Division Two and like St. Teresa’s, unbeaten.
St. Teresa’s raced into an early lead with Deaglan McKillop scoring inside the first minute. This was to be his only contribution in the game as he had to come off shortly after, with a badly bruised and swollen eye, suffered from a clash of heads. Quest equalised and the game came alive. It was end to end football with Josh Roberts putting St. Teresa’s in front again, only for Quest to come back. Josh Roberts scored another but Quest fought back to leave the game at 3-3. Extra time was needed and after Quest went 4-3 up, Christian Taylor scored a superb hat-trick to extend St. Teresa’s unbeaten run and move into the second round of the cup.
In the league we enjoyed back to back wins against All Saints. In the first encounter Jeff King scored 3 and John Roberts 2 to make it 5-1 and in a repeat fixture St. Teresa’s won again 5-1 with goals from Deaglan McKillop (2), Stuart McIlveen (1) John Roberts (1) and Kevin Robertson (1) . This Saturday sees the start of the National Cup and we have been drawn away against Macclesfield Parish Churches. Please keep the Team in your prayers.
REMEMBER: Saturday 16th November at the 6 p.m. Mass is your chance to meet some of the players again. It will be a special occasion with Bishop Tom being the main celebrant. The team will be involved in the Liturgy and will receive a special blessing from Bishop Tom. Please make an effort to come along. The players will be serving Cheese and Wine after the Mass at the back of Church.
