Thank you

A great big thank you to all who worked so hard to prepare our celebrations last weekend with our football team on Saturday, our families preparing for the sacraments on Sunday morning and our bereaved families on Sunday evening. Bishop Tom was greatly encouraged by all the celebrations. Thank you also for your generosity in responding to CAFOD’s emergency appeal for the Philippines, which raised £891.

Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Communion

The December Mass for the families preparing for the sacraments will be on Sunday 8th December, not on Sunday 15th as previously announced. The family celebrations of Reconciliation (which are open to all parishioners) will be on Thursday 12th December at 6.00pm and on Saturday 14th December at 9.30am and 11.00am.

Synod on the Family

Pope Francis has, for the first time, asked all Catholics to say what they think in preparation for a Synod of Bishops. The topic is family life, with all its challenges. You can fill in the questionnaire online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FamilySynod2014 –  you can download the form from https://www.liverpoolcatholic.org.uk/synod  and email it to synod@rcaolp.co.uk or you can fill in a paper copy from the back of church and post it to Maureen O’Brien, LACE, Croxteth Drive, Sefton Park, Liverpool L17 1AA. The closing date for responses is 1st December 2013.

Religious poem competition – free to enter (It’s not too late to enter)

£250 to your church. Can you help? We are looking for a winning poet from St Teresa’s Church. We are approaching the closing date of our Religious Poem Competition, but it’s not too late for parishioners to enter. St Teresa’s Church could win a £250 donation if the winner is one of our parishioners. Anyone can submit up to three poems for the competition. There’s no age limit and no entry fee. “The poem can be a prayer, words for a hymn, a description of an uplifting moment, a religious experience, about a person or your church,” explained United Press Publications Executive, Julie Embury. “It can be rhyming or free verse, historic, romantic, factual, or personal – anything you like, as long as there’s a religious theme.  Do not use Religious Poem as your title. Send up to three poems, of no more than 25 lines (including blank lines) and 160 words each by January 31st 2014 to – Religious Poem Competition, United Press, Admail 3735, London EC1B 1JB. Communion Clothes

Do you have a First Holy Communion suit or dress that you could donate to a pupil at our school? All donations of clothes and accessories will be greatly appreciated. Please bring any items into either the Priests house or to the school office.  Thank you.

Sheila Owens would like to say a huge thank you to Fr Chris, to all the “9 o’clockers” and her friends for all their birthday cards and good wishes when she celebrated her 80th birthday last week. A Mass will be said for all your intentions.

Debt Advice Service

Piety Stall  – Christmas stock has arrived!

Get in early before all the lovely Christmas cards, calendars and crib sets have gone.We also stock a wide range of items, why not call into the shop after Mass at the weekend? Beautiful 2014 diary’s now in, containing the full order of Mass as well as useful prayers for Eucharistic Ministers. Only £1.20 each! Get in quick and buy some.

Foodbank

Many thanks to those who continue to contribute to our Foodbank Appeal, you are all so very generous. We are still collecting and need your help! Food can be dropped off at the priests house. All this food goes out to people in our community!

Parish Pilgrimage to Medjugorje

A joint pilgrimage for St Teresa’s and St Wilfrid’s  parishes will be made to Medjugorje, in Bosnia/ Herzegovina on 2nd—9th October 2014 through Joe Walsh Tours. (see poster at the back of Church). The cost of the week-long pilgrimage is £499pp for two sharing a room. This includes flights from Manchester to Dubrovnik; transfers from the airport to Medjugorje; half board accommodation in a guesthouse close to St. James’ Church; full religious programme and the services of a Joe Walsh Tour representative, plus guided tours of the apparition sites. (single rooms are subject to availability and will be limited, a supplement of £112 will apply)

NOTE: There is a £100 reduction in the cost for those who can pay the full amount by the beginning of December 2013 i.e. £399. payments can be made by cheque/credit card/ cash etc.  If you wish to take advantage of this cheaper offer please make sure to speak to Denise BEFORE December 1st as the money has to be paid in by then.

The Solemnity of Christ the King – Youth Sunday

Today, National Youth Sunday, Pope Francis will officially close the Year of Faith which began on 11 October 2012.                                                          This year the theme for Youth Sunday is “Go, do not be afraid, and serve”  inspired by the Homily of Pope Francis at the recent World Youth Day in Rio. In 1985 the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales called for an  annual celebration of the vibrant contribution young people make to the Church.  The Solemnity of Christ the King, the last Sunday of the liturgical year, was chosen to be National Youth Sunday (NYS). The aims of NYS are to help our parishes celebrate the life, mission and ministry of our young people in their faith communities.

Girls’ Hope University Choir

A concert in aid of Liverpool’s main homeless charity The Whitechapel Centre will be held on Wednesday, 11th December 2013, 7pm at SFX Church Liverpool. Pay on the door : £5. Sponsored Bike Ride

Paul Johnston (brother of Ann Johnston) is doing a Sponsored bike ride to Vietnam & Cambodia on the 23rd November for the British Heart Foundation. Archdiocese of Liverpool  Order Of Deacons

There will be an Open Meeting at St Joseph’s Church, Meeting Lane, Penketh, Warrington, WA5 2BB. Time is 7.00pm for 7.30pm Friday 6th December 2013 on the subject of the Vocation of the Permanent Deacon. The meeting is open to all; it should be of special interest to men thinking about serving in the Ordained Ministry of Deacon.

Journey in Faith

Our Journey in faith group for people who are thinking of becoming Catholic has moved its meeting to 5.00pm on Sundays, just before the Mass at 6.00pm. If you know anyone who would like to join us, please encourage them to get in touch the parish office.

Advent Retreat

At Wistaston Hall, Crewe – Fr. Frank Santucci OMI You are invited to attend an Advent Retreat entitled “Hope amidst shattered dreams”. Fr. Frank will be exploring this theme and we may discover how having this hope enables us to make a difference in our world.
