Walking into Easter with Pope Francis
People have enjoyed our Lent groups so much that we have arranged a gathering to share that experience, to reflect together about how we might change and grow as a parish and to celebrate the joy of the Gospel. We will meet in the parish centre at 7.00pm on Thursday 8th May and the evening will include refreshments and entertainment by Dave and Helen Ashley. Everyone is welcome, whether you took part in the Lent groups or not. Please let your group leader, Sr Teresa or the parish office know if you will be coming, so that we can cater for the right number.
Today is PALM SUNDAY and also WORLD YOUTH DAY
Pope Francis has released a message for the 29th World Youth Day reflecting on the meaning of the Beatitudes:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven, “urging young people to use the revolutionary power of the Beatitudes as a central point of reference in their lives. (Don’t forget that Pope Francis has a very active Twitter account, once on Twitter go to @Pontifex for all his messages of hope, love and peace.)
HCPT Group 133 were overwhelmed by the support they received from our parish last weekend. They would like to say a huge Thank You to everyone who donated to their Lourdes fund. Over £700 was collected which is the approximate cost to take a child to Lourdes! Group 133 have pledged to say prayers at the grotto in Lourdes for all our fantastic parishioners. We wish the group Bon Voyage for next Monday as they set off for their pilgrimage!
Taking action on poverty
Our Pastoral Area Working Group has been discussing for some time the effects of poverty on so many people in our local communities, and have now decided to do something about it, with the help of Church Action on Poverty and some of the other Christian churches in our area. We want to highlight the real struggles of people living in poverty locally and then act together to make a difference. We are looking for 3 or 4 volunteers to come to our opening meeting, 10.00am – 1.00pm on Saturday 10 May 2014 at Holy Name Church, Fazakerley. Please see Fr Chris or contact the parish office if you feel moved to join this project.
Polish people have a lovely way of celebrating Easter. On Holy Saturday they bring baskets of food to be blessed in church and taken home to eat on Easter Sunday. The foods are symbolic: bread for the Body of Christ and the daily bread we ask for in the Our Father; lamb for Christ’s resurrection; eggs for health, strength, happiness and new life. This service, called Swieconka, will be celebrated in our church at 2.00pm on Holy Saturday.
