Responding to the Call Vocation Discernment Group
To support those exploring Vocations to the Priesthood in our diocese, a monthly day of recollection has been organised for the first Saturday of each month. These days will help men who feel called to ordained ministry to discover more about diocesan priesthood and meet others discerning a call to priesthood. There will be an opportunity to talk with and hear from priests who minister in the diocese, and also a time for prayer and discussion. The next day of recollection will take place on Saturday 4th February at St. Charles’ Presbytery, 224 Aigburth Road, Liverpool. For further information, please contact Fr James Preston, Vocations Director for the Archdiocese of Liverpool, at frjamespreston@gmail.com or telephone: 0151 727 2493. Regular updates will be posted on our Facebook page: Archdiocese of Liverpool Vocations
8th February – St Josephine Bakhita was a young Sudanese girl sold into slavery and brought to Italy where while serving as a nanny she was sent to live with the Canossian sisters in Venice. There she was Baptised and granted her freedom, joining the Canossian Daughters of Charity she served humbly for 25 years.
Reflection on the Care of the Sick and Dying
The morning for Eucharistic Ministers, Bereavement Teams and Funeral Ministers in our Pastoral Area, mentioned in the newsletter last week, will now take place on Saturday 11th March, 10.00am-1.00pm, in the extended and refurbished Russell Room at St Philomena’s Church, Sparrow Hall Road, L9 6BU. It will be led by Mgr Peter Fleetwood and Fr Steve Cooper from the Chaplaincy Team at Aintree University Hospital and will include information about how the Catholic community supports the sick and the dying and their families at home and in our local hospitals. The morning will end with the celebration of Mass and those who attend will receive a booklet of prayers and resources for use with the sick and the dying.
